We wanted to learn more about the trees and insects we see in our habitat so we took a field trip to Indian Village on Thursday. We learned all about trees and insects and even had a visit from a wild raccoon. These are some of the things we learned.
"I learned trees can be used for paper." -Mac "I learned it is hard hiding when you are bigger than an insect."- Noah
"I learned that raccoons are nocturnal." -Jackson
"I learned that trees give us oxygen and food." - Evelyn
"I learned trees keep us alive." - Quinny
"I learned trees are important for the environment." -William
"I learned tarantulas shed their skin." -Olivia
"I learned it is not normal for raccoons to be out in the morning." -Matthew
"I learned a new game, camouflage." -Quinn, Will, Henry
We pretended to be trees. We started as a seed and slowly grew into a tree with branches.
We felt the bark of many different kinds of trees. Each one looked and felt different.
We searched for different types of seeds that trees leave behind and compared them to one another.
We learned that every type of tree has a different leaf. We searched for 2 leaves that were different.
We hugged a tree to say thank you for all that they do for us. THANK YOU TREES!
Garden Buddies! September 17, 2010 This year our class is being garden buddies with Mrs. Lupton's 5th graders. We met with our garden buddies for the second time this year. Our buddies shared some of their garden and habitat research projects with us. We learned about morning glories, cucumbers and butterflies. We also spent some time in the garden and habitat searching for things that will complete our Garden and Habitat ABC list.

Finally back in the garden and habitat! September 10, 2010
We have been very busy exploring the garden and habitat since we came back to school 3 weeks ago. We have used our senses to observe, picked vegetables from the garden and worked on a garden and habitat ABC list with our 5th grade garden buddies. We can't wait to do more and see all the changes fall will bring!
Helping the birds! April 16, 2010A new bird bath appeared in the habitat area and we decided to fill it up so the birds can start enjoying it. Logan was the lucky one to fill it up. He used our new watering can to take water out to the bird bath. We hope the birds enjoy!
Taking Care of the Garden!
April 12, 2010
We visited the garden on Monday afternoon. Mrs. S told us about working in the garden over the weekend and about the bunnies she found with Miss Blake and Mrs. O'Brochta. We went out to help clean up the garden and see the bunnies. After we came back inside we brainstormed lots of ways we can help take care of the garden. We have lots of work ahead of us!
Signs of spring in the habitat!March 31, 2010We went out Wednesday afternoon to explore the Barrington Habitat and see what signs of spring are appearing. We found many things blooming, growing and hopping around. Check out our pictures and captions below. Daffodils are blooming! Trees are budding!
